April 11, 1895 Cameron Herald, Cameron, Milam County, Texas
W. A. Nabours the subject of this sketch, is one of the pioneers of central Texas, coming here while a small boy with his parents in 1849, forty-six years ago, from Mississippi. When the war broke out he enlisted in the first volunteer company of Milam County, the 5th regiment of Texas, which formed a portion of Hood's Brigade. At the close of the war he came back to this county and again resumed his avocation of farming, and has been following farming for a livelihood ever sine until the people of the county elected him to the responsible position of county treasurer, and they have never had course to regret electing him either, for a more faithful, honest and upright official Milam County has never had in that office than Mr. Nabours. He also filled the office of County Treasurer during the years 1873-1874. Mr. Nabours does all the clerical work in his office and his books all show evidence of being in the hands of a man who understands the duties and requirements of law in regard to that office, and records are kept in such a manner that Mr. Nabours can give you the financial standing of the county at almost a moment's notice. Mr. Nabours still owns a fine farm of 400 acres only six miles from Cameron and he has it well improved and a fine residence thereon. And he says that during all the time he has resided here a failure of crops has been unknown. Mr. Nabours is one of the more active leaders in the Populist Party in the county and he things that it is the best party for the people in general existence. He is one of our most reliable and enterprising citizens and of the prominent tax payers of the county, and has a large host of friends and acquaintances.
